Emergency Service

In case of an emergency, please call us (413-614-0039) or come in immediately.

vet techs working on a patient in urgent careWe are open for walk-in emergency care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (including holidays). If you are not sure if your pet needs to be seen, please give us a call!

What to Expect:

Our emergency service operates on a triage system, which means that the sickest patients are seen and treated first (regardless of order of arrival).

When you and your pet arrive, please check in at the front desk and our triage nurse will come out to meet you. Our nurse will ask what brings you into the ER today, and borrow your pet to take their vitals and perform a brief assessment. Once it is your pet’s turn, one of our ER nurses will take a detailed history and you will meet with the doctor.

While you are waiting for your turn, please fill out the ER intake form with your pet’s complete medical history:

If your pet is stable and is presenting for a non-life-threatening problem (ex: ear infection, mild lameness, broken toenail), we may offer you the option of scheduling an appointment through our Urgent Care service. This is because during times when the ER is busy with extremely sick patients, the patients who are less critical unfortunately tend to wait much longer to be seen. Scheduling an urgent care appointment can help avoid prolonged wait times. Please understand that during our busiest periods, wait times are measured in hours.

Once your pet has been examined and you have met with the doctor, we will make you an estimate for the recommended diagnostic and treatment plan. Since we know veterinary care can be expensive, please let us know if you have cost concerns. Also, here is a link to some of the payment options we have. You will be asked to leave a deposit equal to the low end of the estimate before we begin treatment.

  • Lameness (limping)
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Decreased appetite
  • Lethargy, decreased energy

These examples are not comprehensive, and it may be hard to know how serious a problem is before your pet is examined by a veterinarian.
